3D product configuration

In order to speed up the act of purchasing, consumer interaction with the desired product has become an essential decision-making factor. Beyond the beautiful visual, the catalog photo, consumers want to manipulate, appropriate and “control” their future purchase.

It’s also an important factor for your employees, especially the younger generation, who now expect to find the same kind of solutions in their professional activities as they do in their personal lives. Configurators and 3D are no exception to this trend. What’s more, 3D makes it easier to understand the offer and the product, by enabling instant visualization.

A 3D configurator – or 3D product configurator – enables users to customize products to their own specifications, and to view them in real time from every angle.
This immersive, interactive visualization makes the consumer the protagonist of his or her project. A real sales booster, the 3D configurator will engage customers in their choice.

Backed up by the CPQ (Configuration, Pricing, Quotation), 3D modeling enables you to visualize product modifications as you configure the product, as well as the associated pricing. In this way, the user is able to project himself into the purchasing process, which considerably reduces the time it takes to make a decision.

Going further with Augmented Reality

Most of the software solutions we have selected offer 3D visualization coupled with augmented reality for a totally immersive experience. AR allows products to be visualized in the customer’s real-life environment, helping to assess product appearance and fit before purchase. AR simplifies the configuration process by guiding customers through the various options available, avoiding ordering errors.
By combining AR with the price and quote function, customers can obtain instant information on the cost of customized configurations, speeding up the sales process.

Improving the customer experience

3D modeling allows customers to visualize the product or space they want to configure more realistically and in real time. They can easily interact with the elements in a playful way: zoom in on different angles, change preferences, animate the product in its environment, etc. The uses are endless!

Save time and money

3D can generate a multitude of product variations in a very short space of time. Allows you to anticipate production and limit the risk of errors, thus optimizing the cost of design files (especially CAD).

Error reduction

3D modeling reduces design errors by enabling customers to visualize and validate the configuration before production. This helps to reduce the costs associated with errors and product returns, and more generally to alleviate customer dissatisfaction.

Shorter lead times

3D reduces manufacturing lead times by enabling customers to visualize and validate the configuration before the order is validated. This speeds up time-to-production, reducing delays due to design errors. 3D also facilitates collaboration between internal teams and customers, speeding up the development and design process.

Integrated into the CPQ (Configuration, Price, Quotation), 3D modeling helps to increase user commitment and speed up the purchasing decision. 3D projection, combined with the sales proposal and quotation, considerably reduces the risk of error, and therefore manufacturing time.

Answers from an expert in CPQ 3D Visual Configuration

FAQ

Welcome to our FAQ section dedicated to the 3D CPQ product configurator. Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about 3D configuration, pricing and quotation generation.

No, the integration of 3D is not systematic in a CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) solution. A CPQ solution enables you to configure, price and quote customized products according to customer specifications. 3D integration can be useful to help customers visualize the final product, but it ‘s not always necessary.

Adding 3D depends on the type of product or service configured in the CPQ solution. For products that require 3D visualization, 3D integration can help customers better understand product features and functionality. This can also help reduce ordering errors, as customers can see the final product before placing their order.

However, for products that do not require 3D visualization, the integration of 3D can be considered superfluous and add unnecessary complexity to the CPQ solution. In such cases, 2D images or text descriptions may suffice to enable customers to configure and order their customized product.

Our experts will advise you on which CPQ solution, with or without modeling, is best suited to your needs and challenges.

As part of the integration of a CPQ 3D product configurator, our experts can use your company’s existing 3D resources. Typically, these are STEP files (Standard for the Exchange of Product model data) used to exchange product model data between different CAD systems.
In all cases, our team will support and advise you on the best approach to ensure that the 3D rendering of your products used in CPQ software is as optimal and realistic as possible.

The CPQ software solutions we recommend are open to integration with a website, or even an ecommerce site, viaAPIs (communication gateways between 2 tools). Our technical teams have developed all the connectors needed to integrate CPQ platforms and deliver a consistent, seamless user experience.
